  1.   Should we be concerned about static electricity with your grommet?

Answers

  1.   Should we be concerned about static electricity with your grommet?
  A.   Our CableSeal products are manufactured from aluminum and will dissipate static electricity directly into the floor structure.

  2.   Do you make a product to seal up against a wall?
  A.   Our SWK model (Standard Wall Kit) is designed for use with perimeter openings up to 3 1/2" deep and is available in 4 lengths. Our XLWK model (Extended Length Wall Kit) is used for openings up to 6" deep. Check out our photo gallery for examples. Custom is no problem for us. We are the manufacturer.

  3.   Are we able to seal the cable openings below our PDU’s?
  A.   Yes. We recently installed custom grommets below a customer’s PDU’s with great success. The product shown in our Custom Products Section was fabricated for that purpose. Please check with the manufacturer prior to installation. In this case the manufacturer confirmed the PDU did not require any cooling air from under floor, as their units were certified on a flat floor using ambient room air for cooling. As with all floor sealing grommets, it is ideal to install the grommet prior to any cabling. Retrofit installations are naturally more difficult.

  4.   How effective are your grommets in sealing the airflow compared to the competition?
  A.   Remarkable. Our units have been field tested with thousands of installations and our sealing ability is as good as or better than anyone. Discussions over better types of filaments and sealing methods are minor marketing points and really should have no bearing on your decision. It is far more important to realize the benefits of quick action and as the famous saying goes “Just do it!”

  5.   Our facility is not that big, and our floor openings are just average size. Why would we need to bother sealing the data and power distribution cable openings?
  A.   As an example, we recently audited an average 10,000 square foot raised floor facility. The floor openings for cabling are below the units and mostly hidden from view. When the total open area is calculated, it equals 2% of the floor area. Not bad, right? Wrong! This is equal to almost 50 full tiles missing! And this is a typical result. Sealing up these openings will restore your under floor air pressure and allow you to direct the cooling air where you need it most.

  6.   We have our own Facilities Maintenance Personnel. Can we install your products on our own?
  A.   Absolutely. Simple tools and basic mechanical ability are all that is required for almost all CableSeal products. Installation Instructions are provided in our “Products” section.

  7.   Your promotional material mentions energy savings. What could we expect?
  A.   The benefits of retrofitting existing facilities are well documented in technical papers and publications. Savings will vary from customer to customer, however previous customers have seen such dramatic increases in under floor pressure that they were able to shut down a portion of their CRU’s, or switch to variable speed fan equipment to control the floor pressure. Your return air temperatures to the CRU’s will also increase due to less wasted bypass air, and DX systems are more efficient at higher temperatures. These benefits alone will quickly payback the expense of the upgrade, without considering the potential equipment failures and downtime which can be avoided by proper cooling air distribution.

  8.   Are your products fire rated?
  A.   Our CableSeal products have not been tested, however they are primarily aluminum alloy and the only combustible portion of the product is the nylon brush filaments. The manufacturer of the filaments has tested various shapes and thicknesses of Nylon made with #6 and #66 resins. The testing is to UL94 standards and all tests achieved the V2 rating. Our product has been used to safely seal hundreds of thousands of square feet in raised floor facilities throughout Canada.

  9.   I see your product is made from metal. Is there any chance of zinc whisker contamination?
  A.   None. Our product is manufactured from aluminum alloy. Zinc whiskers are generated from zinc electroplated steel.
